Girls at the local secondary school explaining the difficulties of daily life and going to school in the current atmosphere of political insecurity. Government-backed Janjaweed militias and a faction of Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) rebels (known as the non-signatories) have been terrorising the population of Darfur, provoking violence and widespread insecurity. In the countryside, where a state of lawlessness exists, villages are often looted and local people are at risk of being attacked and raped by roaming militants.
