Grace Githuthwa returns to the wreckage of the Kenya Assemblies of God Pentecostal church, a day after it was torched by an angry mob. She was searching for her daughter Miriam, 3, who was snatched from her and thrown into the flames as Grace tried to escape with her four children. Her body had not been identified, but it was almost certain she was killed. The body shown here was that of a young man who tried to escape the burning church but was killed by the mob. At least 30 Kikuyu people, many of them children, were killed when members of the Kalenjin tribe attached the church where they had taken refuge. Unrest and ethnic violence followed protests against disputed election results. President Mwai Kibaki, a Kikuyu, was suspected of rigging the vote to retain power.
