Hassan Fofona (16) begs for money outside the central post office in the city. Crippled by polio since he was 10, Hassan was caught by rebels who hacked of his good arm. Thousands of innocent citizens were mutilated and had limbs brutally amputated by the by Revolutionary United Front (RUF) militia seeking support during the decade long conflict in Sierra Leone. Hassan is from a poor family and cannot work, so must beg.
