Disko Bay, Greenland

Huge cracks cleave the sea ice of Disko Bay into huge floating islands. Locals claim that this breaking up of the winter ice is a recent phenomenon which wasn't seen 20 years ago. It has also been suggested that by 2050 climate change will result in the Arctic Sea being clear of ice during the summer months. Over the past 30 years, the annual average extent of Arctic sea-ice has decreased by about 8%, or nearly one million square kilometres, an area larger than all of Norway, Sweden and Denmark combined.
