Human remains lie exposed in the capital's cemetery. Coffins are often opened by grave robbers who steal bones which are believed to be powerful in voodoo rituals to ward off an enemy. Powder made from the bones is thought to be able to inflict diseases similar to tuberculosis on another person and enduce reactions such as epilepsy if engulfed. As funerals are extremely expensive sometimes even the coffins are stolen.
