In 2014 photographer Jenny Matthews came across an old trunk of Polaroid photographs in the Kigali office of Save the Children. The pictures were of unaccompanied children and were taken after the 1994 genocide. Save the Children and International Committee of the Red Cross had displayed them on bulletin boards in the offices of NGOs and in camps for displaced survivors in a search for any living relatives of the children.
