Ahikam Seri

Gush Katif, Gaza Strip, ISRAEL (PALESTINE)

Israeli settlers Shaltiel (right) and Avraham (left) respectively praying and playing with a mobile telephone in the synagogue of the Palm Beach hotel, a few hours before it was raided. The hotel had been taken over by settlers fighting the Israeli disengagement from Gaza, who had renamed it Maoz Hayam (fortified place). But in the event the police and army raid swiftly overcame their resistance and cleared the hotel, in one of the opening salvoes of the withdrawal. The Israeli government disbanded the settlements in Gaza in August 2005.
