Bidibidi Refugee Settlement, Uganda

Jackson Lobsta (9), a refugee boy living in the Bidibidi camp, with his toy truck he constructed out of a cardboard box that formerly contained a soap powder and plastic bottle tops.

According to the UNHCR 60% of the refugees fleeing South Sudan are children. As in all Uganda's refugee settlements, the number of children among the residents at Bidibidi is very high. Having usually fled their homes without taking possessions, children in the camp have become adept at fashioning their own toys from recyled odds and ends found around the camp.
