Jean-Claude Picard, born in France 1938, is a pilgrim to The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, one of the most popular Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world. "I am mentally ill and I have bad thoughts. In the past I tried to commit suicide several times. I slit my wrists and I mutilated myself: I blinded one of my eyes. I got psychiatric treatment but that did not really help. My wife said: 'Go to Lourdes, Maria will cure you'. That was 19 years ago and I still live here. Little by little I am getting better. I feel closer to Jesus. I live in a small room with one bed and four chairs: one for Maria, one for Joseph, one for Jesus and one for myself."
