Lord (George) Robertson, NATO Secretary General, and Javier Solana, European Union Special Envoy, at a press conference to announce the signing of a peace agreement between the political parties in Macedonia.
Macedonia was plunged into crisis in 2001 as rebels staged an uprising, demanding greater rights for the ethnic Albanian minority. A peace agreement brokered by the EU and NATO eventually saw the rebels lay down their arms in return for an acknowledgement of ethnic Albanian rights in a new national constitution.
