Maai Mahiu, a village in the Rift Valley which is situated on a major highway linking Kenya with surrounding countries. What was once a quiet village has become a hive of activity, with almost all economic activity now focused on the passing truck drivers. At the side of the road are a kiosk shaped like a Coca Cola bottle and several hotels, bars and shops. In the distance are the mountains of the Great Rift Valley. Early in the morning, when the trucks have left, the centre of the village is empty and most of the villagers who worked through the night are asleep.
