Maria del Rosario Bran de Villatoro (left) and Samuel Villatoro Bran hold an image of Amancio Samuel Villatoro, former labour union leader detained and disappeared on 30 January 1984 by state security forces. After 27 years searching for their late husband and father, the remains of Amancio Samuel were identified by members of the Guatemalan Forensic Anthropology Foundation (FAFG) using DNA samples in November 2011. Amancio Samuel's remains were among the hundreds of bodies recovered from Comalapa's Military Garrison and the first to be identified through this technology.
