Gonaives, HAITI

Marianie (centre) with her children and sisters.
Baby Wilklef was born on the same day that Gonaives was flooded. After Marianie gave birth they left the hut to climb on the roof of a nearby house. One of the walls of the hut is completely destroyed. Marianie's mother went to the market that day and never came back.
Three weeks after tropical storm Jeanne hit Gonaives parts of the city are still flooded. Over 2700 people were reported dead or missing. Haiti is particularly vulnerable to flooding after heavy rainfall due to intense deforestation.
