Poroj, MACEDONIA

Members of the ethnic Albanian National Liberation Army (NLA) attend the funeral of Ismail Mehmeti, an NLA soldier killed on the 16th August in a firefight with Macedonian forces in Tetovo. Macedonia was plunged into crisis in 2001 as rebels staged an uprising, demanding greater rights for the ethnic Albanian minority. A peace agreement eventually saw the rebels lay down their arms in return for an acknowledgement of ethnic Albanian rights in a new national constitution.
