Men talk outside a house built with remittances sent by relatives from Britain in one of the many villages that is threatened with being submerged if plans for extension of the Mangla Dam go ahead. The Mangla dam project in the 1960s displaced over 100,000 people when water inundated surrounding settlements and of the displaced many emigrated to Britain. Over 300,000 people who live in Britain's Pakistani communities have their roots in and around the Mirpur District of Azad Kashmir.
