Lagos, Nigeria

Money, mobiles and a torch drying on a table after one of the community leaders managed to intermediate a deal between the police and a smuggler caught on the open sea on a rainy day. Some people from Makoko are involved in smuggling goods from Nigeria's much cheaper neighbour Benin, about 50 km away. The Makoko slum is a community, under threat from eviction, built over the polluted waters of the Lagos Lagoon.
