Mosammad Shimu Begum (25) collecting water from the communal water source.
Describing the sanitation situation she says: "I have three children (Aysha, Soleman, Shahjalal). None of them live with us. I sent them to the village as I do not want them to suffer continually with illness. It's very tough for a mother to stay away from her children who are at an important growing stage. But we are helpless. My daughter almost died due to diarrhoea when she visited me two months ago during Eid festival time. I decided not to bring any of them here until our situation changes." She goes on to say: "I saw one of my neighbours die with diarrhoea who was also a colleague. None of us thought someone could die with diarrhoea. Just after the incident two years ago, I sent my children back to the village to their grandmother. I do not want to lose my children because of the unhygienic latrine we have to use."
