Munda farmer, Laxmi Singh Sardar, washes Sponge Gourds (next to a pile of Bottle Gourds), a high value cash crop, in Barabanki Village. The Munda are an Adavasi (tribal) people generally considered the indigenous peoples of the Indian subcontinent. The farmers have been assisted by TSRDS (Tata Steel Rural Development Society) have helped the farmers create an irrigation system that has allowed them to harvest more than once a year. TSRDS is involved in various social development programmes aimed at helping the rural communities living around Tata Steel's operational units.
