Muslim women in headscarves pass the Ribat (medieval fortress) in the Medina. The Ribat is a chain of fortified monasteries with a watch tower, built by the Aghlabids in the 9th century AD. It served in times of war to house warrior monks and to defend the population against enemy attack.
