Niger Delta, NIGERIA

Niger Delta Peoples' Volunteer Force (NDPVF) fighters bare their stomachs in front of the huge Shell Robertkiri flow station near SOKU, an indication that the people go hungry whilst the government and the oil companies make massive profits. Violence is common in the oil producing Niger Delta, and the NDPVF claims much of it is state sponsored. The group is fighting for resource control and independence for the region, on behalf of its majority ethnic Ijaw population.
