Nuns pray at the Myawaddy nunnery. There are 30,000 nuns in Burma, relatively few compared with the 200,000 monks. There are no novice nuns within the nunnery, even young children are considered fully ordained nuns (bhikkhunis). Except for an hour (between two and three pm), the nuns study and pray all day. Three days a week they are permitted to leave the nunnery to beg for food and alms.
