Bia Tributaries North Forest Reserve, Ghana

One of the last areas of rainforest in western Ghana. Logging companies have been granted permits to remove certain trees from the forest for the European market. Despite strict rules, the result is that the previously impenetrable jungle becomes accessible to local farmers. They travel into the forest via logging tracks to plant cocoa trees and other crops in the fertile soil in the shadow of the remaining forest giants.
