Minzayar Oo

Yangon ( Rangoon ), Myanmar ( Burma )

People use a computer in an internet hut in Thae Chaung village, home to thousands of displaced Rohingya Muslims near Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine State in western Myanmar. Operators of the huts charge customers 10 cents a minute to talk to relatives who have left Rakhine State by boat to seek work overseas. Some relatives are safely in Malaysia, while others are being held hostage by human traffickers at jungle camps in Thailand or Malaysia until ransoms are paid. The internet huts allow Rohingya to negotiate with traffickers by phone and act as the conduit for thousands of dollars in ransom money.
