Tuzla, BOSNIA HERCEGOVINA

Personal effects of the victims of the Srebrenica massacre are examined in the PIP identification project at the specially built morgue in Tuzla, the world's largest, that holds the remains of those whose bodies have been recovered and are yet to be identified. Some 4,000 bodies have been recovered, and they are slowly being identified by DNA analysis and by comparing dental records and personal items so that their loved ones can finally lay them to rest. An estimated 8,000 Bosniak (Muslim) men and boys from Srebrenica were murdered by Serb forces in July 1995.
