Belgrade, SERBIA

Photographs showing a freezer truck from the city of Prizren in Kosovo that was dumped in the river Danube in Serbia during the conflict in 1999. When it was recovered by Serb police it was found to contain the corpses of 86 ethnic Albanians, including two children, who bore signs of being stabbed or bludgeoned to death. A leg can be seen protruding from the hole in the back of the truck. Working at night, the police removed the bodies for reburial and destroyed the truck. The incident was later cited in testimony to the UN War Crimes Tribunal, as possible evidence that President Slobodan Milosevic orchestrated atrocities in Kosovo and then tried to cover them up.
