Pilgrims praying in the holy waters as dusk descends during the Ardh Kumbh Mela. It is believed that pilgrims will achieve Moksha (deliverance from the human cycle of death and rebirth) by entering the water. The Ardh (Half) pilgrimage, one of the world's largest gatherings of people, occurs every six years in Allahabad (Prayag) at the confluence of two holy rivers, the Ganges and the Yamuna (Jamuna). It is believed that the two rivers are also joined by a third, mystical river, the Saraswati, which has no physical form.
