Portrait of a tribal man's silhouette beneath the Dandakaranya forest in Guymapal village, near Kirandul town, Dantewada district. On 16 May 2010 government security forces encircled the village and killed to local men suspected of being Maoist rebels in a field before setting fire to a neighbouring house. Local people claim the two deceased were ordinary villagers. The following day Maoists used a remotely detonated improvised explosive device (IED) to destroy a bus carrying civilians and security forces, killing more than 30 people. Maoist leaders have been quoted as claiming the blast a revenge for the executions in Gymayapal.
