Prabhu Ram KC, a local Maoist leader in Panauti, sits in front of an election campaign banner that reads, "Ensure the proportional representation of all classes, castes, regions; Madhesi, women, Dalit and other marginalised groups." In 2004 KC was detained in the notorious Bhariabnath Barracks. For over five months his young wife, son and elderly mother did not know whether he was dead of alive. The KC family, their neighbours, relatives and friends all voted Maoist in the recent election. "Of course we would vote for a party that represents change, that is inclusive, that has been the champion for the republican cause," says Prabhu's wife Manila KC.
