Morena District, Madhya Pradesh, INDIA

Pregnant women wait with their attendants in the corridor due to a lack of beds in the maternity ward of the district hospital in Morena. India's daughters are disappearing. Deeply entrenched discrimination against women has led to the survival rates of girls hitting an all-time low, with sex-selective abortion and neglect on the increase. Many families now use ultrasound scans and abort female foetuses, despite the existence of the 1994 law banning gender selection and selective abortion.
