Rowani Mwafuliwa (17) dropped out of school in Chakwela village because he could not afford the uniform or decent clothes to wear. He began fishing on Lake Malawi to earn money for food and clothes. He has been brought back to school by LISAPs Father and Mother group in Kaporo. The Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme (LISAP) 'coordinates the HIV & AIDS activities of the Church of Central Africa, Presbyterian (CCAP) Synod of Livingstonia and mobilises and empowers communities to initiate and sustain HIV & AIDS interventions with a Christ centred spirit.' (LISAP website). Its Girls and Boys Empowerment Project funds increased access to education as an early intervention method to HIV/AIDS prevention.
