Saguna, a worker at the M.A Ambabur brick kiln, loads a donkey with unfired bricks. Modern India is built on the backs of donkeys. They transport building materials at construction sites and have long been used for carrying bricks at kilns. The brick-making season runs from November to June and as the months progress the condition of the animals and workers deteriorates under the growing pressure of work and heat.
