Student Benson Koonyo holds the eucalyptus tree he has been watering each day until it was big enough to grow on its own. Benson is 11 years old and a fourth class pupil in the Nturumeti Primary School near Narok. In 2009 the students planted 105 eucalyptus trees. The following year 300 casuarina and grevillea trees were planted and this year over 400 trees will be planted. The eucaluptus trees have already grown into big trees and will be harvested in three years in order to be sold as timber for furniture and construction. With the profit the school can buy vegetables in order to suport a healthy learning project which they launched in collaboration with the Belgian Flemish Association for Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance (VVOB).
