The arrival of 'maquiladora' factories, assembly production lines which employ competitively-priced Mexican labour, temporarily importing necessary parts for assembly before exporting the finished product back to the States, has led to large migratory movements in towns such as Ciudad Juarez. In sixty years the town has gone from having tens of thousands inhabitants to several million.
