The Chubut River, which is of immense importance to the communities in the Chubut Valley. It supplies the water that enables agriculture to thrive in a desert environment. In 1881, a young Welsh settler, E J Williams, designed a system of irrigation channels and canals that controlled the flow of water to the farms of the valley.
