Zendan-i Suleiman, IRAN

The crater cone at Zendan-i Suleiman, which rises from a plateau at Takht-i Suleiman. The 100 metre-high crater is a spring cone which formed from calcium deposits from the highly calcinated water. Although now empty, the spring contained water in the 1st millennium BC when it may have been settled by the Mannaean people. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (185)
