Padma River, Barisal Division, Bangladesh

The crew unload cargo from the hold of the PS Mahsud at one of the many stops on a river voyage between Dhaka and Khulna. Built in a Scottish shipyard on the River Clyde in 1929 this was one of many boats used by the British to carry passengers and cargo around the river systems of British India, a job that it continues to do in Bangladesh today. The surviving paddle steamers are also known by their old nickname of 'Rocket Ships', as they were once the fastest vessels on the rivers.
