The festival of Janai Purnima (or Janai Purne) at Kumbeshwar temple. All high caste men (Chetri and Brahman) must change their 'janai' (sacred thread) that they wear looped over their left shoulder and tied under their right arm. They wear this at all times, except on this one annual occasion when it is changed. A silver lingam is installed at the temple pond for the occasion, and people offer 'puja' (worship) to it, and bless themselves in the water.
