Gonaives, HAITI

The hospital in Gonaives was completely destroyed in the flood. Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) opened a dispensary in the Raboteau neighbourhood, which treats about 700 patients each day. Most of them suffer from respiratory problems and skin infections. Many have wounds on their feet from walking barefoot in the mud. A team of psychologists are also on hand to help traumatised people.
Three weeks after tropical storm Jeanne hit Gonaives parts of the city are still flooded. Over 2700 people were reported dead or missing. Haiti is particularly vulnerable to flooding after heavy rainfall due to intense deforestation.
