The Lifebuoy Friendship floating hospital treats around 100 patients every day from the islands on the Jamuna River in Gaibandha District. The boat moves to a new location every second or third month, depending on the water level in the river. "The most common diseases are skin diseases, fever and breathing problems", says paramedic Ahmed Hussain. For the last 10 - 15 years, the flow of the Jamuna River has become stronger, causing much more erosion. Islands disappear and rise elsewhere, forcing islanders to move over and over again.
