Ayeyarwaddy River, Myanmar, BURMA

The Mandalay-Bhamo ferry is greeted from her sister vessel going in the opposite direction. The ferry is a cheap but slow option, taking 36 hours or more to travel along the Ayeyarwaddy (Irrawaddy) River. In colonial times the river was known as the 'Road to Mandalay'. It is the country's largest river and its most important commercial waterway, dissecting the country from the Himalayan foothills in the north to its delta in the Indian Ocean.
