The passport of Bukusile Tshosi's deceased mother. As well as looking after her 18 month old daughter, Bukusile cares for her two younger sisters. Their mother died of Aids seven years ago, and their grandmother one year after that, leaving Bukusile and her two sisters orphans at the ages of 10, 9 and 8. The youngest sister, who was six years old at the time died of Aids six months later. They were taken in for a while by their uncle until his second wife, who was jealous of them, kicked them out. Since then Bukusile has tried to provide for the family. Her daughter's father left before she was even born. Child-headed households such as this are becoming more common in South Africa, as the Aids epidemic continues to ravage the country.
