The repositioned rock-temples at Abu Simbel, dating from the 13th century BC, beside the River Nile. The smaller sanctuary was dedicated by pharaoh Ramesses II to his wife Nefertari and the Goddess Hathor. The adjacent temple carved out of the rock face features a seated statue of the pharaoh alongside the kingdom's gods. (241)
