The ruins of a village, viewed from the safety of a military helicopter, between Maiduguri and Gwoza destroyed by fighting between the army and Boko Haram. Although the Nigerian army has retaken much territory from the Islamist group in the last year large areas remain too dangerous for villagers to resettle as Boko Haram and criminal gangs, operating in the power vacuum that the conflict has created, are still free to operate.
