The Sassanian imperial sanctuary at Takht-i-Suleiman, described in early chronicles as being the favoured pilgrimage site by late Sassanian kings. The sanctuary, which contains a lake and two temple areas, dates from the 5th to the 7th century AD and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (18)
