Thirteen-year-old Ohmar Hefeez was trapped under a collapsed house during the 2005 Kashmir earthquake. Ohmar recalls, 'The house fell down on my leg'. He had to spend almost three months in hospital and the doctors had to amputate his leg. The 7.6 magnitude quake that hit the area on 8th October 2005 killed over 80,000 people. Balakot was one of the worst hit towns as it was situated close to the epicentre of the earthquake.
