Eldoret, KENYA

Thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) are camping around the police station of Eldoret. As women and children queue at the only tap available for drinking water, police officers maintain order. Most of the people who had fled from surrounding villages were from the Kikuyu tribe, who had been targeted in ethnic violence following protests against disputed election results. President Mwai Kibaki, a Kikuyu, was suspected of rigging the vote to retain power.
