Two boys stand next to a pool of water in an area known as the Taisala or the Borrow Pits. During WW2 the American military excavated sand and rocks from the area in order to build a runway. The land was never reinstated leaving a series artificial lagoons that pockmark the district. Sixty years on, the population of the nation's capital has increased tenfold and people are forced to live on and around four hectares of these tidal pools that are now also littered with the detritus of modern life.
