Two women sit in a village centre, in the Satkhira district, that was recently innundated by flood waters. The submerged road has been marked by red flags. To the left a group of men fish with nets in the flood water. Each year limited flooding helps to enrich the soil and create very fertile farm land. In turn, this results in a high population density on the flood plain. However, the low lying land is also prone to extreme flooding events that are very destructive and to both economy and life.
