Sarajevo, BOSNIA HERCEGOVINA

Two women walk past a barricade punctured by bullets. Civilians were protected from Serb sniper and artillery fire by barricades made from shipping containers, concrete slabs, rubbish bins and metal plates. Around 250,000 people lost their lives in the civil war between Bosnian Muslims, Croats and Serbs that raged from 1992 to 1995 and resulted in the break-up of the former Yugoslavia.
