Vanea and Marusa return to the village of Sfistofca after a fishing trip. Their survival depends on fishing and sometimes they use illegal fishing nets. The bark of their pet dog, Soson, warns them of the approach of another boat, that might belong to the authorities. The inhabitants of the Danube Delta live an isolated existance and make a living mainly by fishing and farming. The region's well-preserved delta eco-system was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.
